Job Title: Payroll Coordinator

Pay rate: £16.10 per hour PAYE
The role:
Reporting to the Payroll and Pension Services Manager, the Payroll Coordinator will assist department managers in delivering excellent service to the community and stakeholders by assisting in the management and processing of the payment of salaries for all personnel in accordance with procedures including the correct treatment of PAYE, taxable allowances, VAT etc.
Key responsibilities:
Deputise for the Payroll Advisor when needed
Supervise the Payroll Assistant, providing daily guidance and workload planning
Ensure accurate and timely processing of starters, leavers, transfers, and changes
Monitor and audit salary payments, including Occupational and Statutory payments (e.g. sickness, maternity)
Administer and control Car User Schemes and other allowances or expenses
Conduct regular payroll reconciliations, managing salary adjustments and recoveries
Provide clear advice on payroll queries, simplifying complex information for different personnel
Produce reports and documents to support payroll functions and decision-making
Verify and audit payroll data to maintain accuracy and quality
Supply salary information to third parties (e.g. mortgage references, insurers)
Support budget preparation with relevant payroll data and reports
What the client is looking for:
Qualification (or working towards) relating to payroll or significant relevant experience
Payroll experience
Pension and exchequer activities experience
Experience working with SAP (desirable)
Knowledge of Tax/NI calculations and understanding of statutory HMRC payments
Attention to detail, efficiency and organisational skills
Ability to process bulk data on tight timescales
Report writing skills
A solid grasp of excel and formulae work as well as computerised payroll systems
