Role Overview:
We’re excited to offer a three year fixed-term graduate opportunity within Oldham Council’s Finance Service. This career-graded role is designed to support your professional development, with structured progression through pay grades as your skills and experience grow. Throughout the programme, you’ll gain hands on experience across all areas of the Finance Service, building a strong foundation in local government finance. More than just numbers, your work will directly contribute to decisions that shape services and improve outcomes for communities across Oldham, making a real difference where it matters most.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure items are reconciled and all holding accounts are cleared on a regular and timely basis and producing accurate and complete working papers
- Produce and present financial management information, budget monitoring and trading reports, which are accurate, timely and appropriate to the audience
- To assist the Senior Finance Manager (SFM), Finance Manager (FM) and Senior Accountant (SA) in providing technical advice, guidance, briefings and training appropriate to the audience on a range of financial issues including those relating to high profile projects / programmes
- To assist the SA in completing all grant claims and statistical returns for their area on an accurate, timely and regular basis
- To be a member of a project team assisting in the development of a project initiation document and a project plan, assisting in ensuring that the project delivers agreed outcomes successfully and on time
Key Requirements:
To succeed in this role, you will be able to:
- Analyse and interpret data and present it effectively to various audiences to inform decision-making.
- Communicate effectively and be confident to challenge when advising and supporting senior officers
- Excellent organisational skills to agree, develop and manage the provision of appropriate financial accounts; ensuring managers have access to appropriate and timely information about their service.
