The Nursery Food Champion role is key in supporting the smooth day to day running of the nursery, so that the nursery team can deliver outstanding care and education for children and families and ensure the nursery is an exceptional place to work.
A key part of this role is make a real difference to the lives of children and their families, by managing and serving meals delicious and nutritious meals and snacks supplied by our Nursery Kitchen. Be at the forefront of early years nutrition and part of a fast-growing movement to help children develop healthy tastes that last a lifetime. About the role
This is a diverse and exciting role that covers food management and education, and supports the nursery team to deliver outstanding care and education in line with our mission and values, key responsibilities include;
Make a difference
• Get creative – delight children and parents by building exciting, weekly menus from a range of meals, sides, snacks, and desserts to meet the children’s dietary needs.
• Inspire a generation - launch new dishes in our nursery, excite and educate our children, team, and parents about our food. Inspire children to develop a passion for food through lunch and learn, baking, growing, and tasting activities so children understand where their food comes from. Communicate with parents, visitors and team on all matters food, discussing dietary needs, our food education; how we teach children about food.
• An amazing meal deserves amazing presentation – provide the finishing touch by preparing, presenting, and serving meals and snacks each day, creating the most enjoyable mealtime experience, and quality monitor by taste testing.
• Keep us safe – Being responsible for all food safety controls, to include allergy controls, meeting our children’s dietary needs and maintaining a clean kitchen environment which meets environmental health standards and a five-star food hygiene rating. Actively participating at Environmental Health inspections and contribute towards the implementation of any recommendations made by external bodies or internal audit. Completing accurate food safety records.
• Be kind to the planet – control food orders and portioning to minimise food waste and reduce environmental impacts.
• Ready for anything – manage stock control to ensure we can always keep the children fuelled for learning, whatever happens.
• Be part of something special – connect with our Nursery Kitchen, to share feedback, develop recipes and improve the health and nutrition of thousands of children across the country.
Learn and grow
• Work with our Nursery Kitchen Food Innovation Team to create amazing dishes for children and have a national impact.
• Join the champions at Nursery Kitchen for buddy days and experience high volume cooking and dish development.
• Complete a comprehensive training programme to become an early year’s food expert.
• Complete an apprenticeship as a Production Chef (desirable not essential).
• Complete Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety for Catering.
