A Vacancy at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Applications are invited for the role of ST6 to join our Haematology team based at York Hospital.

We are looking to welcome a highly motivated colleague with excellent communication and team working skills, who wants to deliver the best haematology care for our local population.

The Clinical Haematology service is primarily provided on the York hospital site. Whilst also providing a limited service on the Scarborough hospital site. Covering the full range of adult haematological disorders including all types of haematological malignancy, apart from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. We are a non-comprehensive haemophilia centre.

The duties of the post include the provision of Clinical and Laboratory Haematology services at York Hospital. Scarborough Hospital is usually covered remotely, but days on site in Scarborough may be required.

Duties include but are not restricted to:

Clinical review and management of patients: planned outpatient clinic reviews; ad hoc reviews of acutely unwell patients in the outpatient and inpatient setting; management of inpatients under the Haematology team, or who have been referred to the Haematology team.

Active participation in Liaison Haematology: answering queries from medical teams in the Hospital and Primary Care, as well as from the Haematology Laboratory.

Safe prescribing of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies and other medications as required.

Excellent communication skills with patients, relatives and staff members. The postholder is expected to be friendly and approachable. Reviews and treatment plans should be clearly documented and safe handover of patients is essential.

Competent performance of Bone Marrow Aspirate and Trephine Biopsies.

On call commitment (for a WTE post), in every 3 weeks: 1 weekend day (including inpatient ward round, followed by non-resident on call, totalling 24h), plus 2 week day non-resident on calls 5pm-9am. Please note you are expected to return to the hospital during the on-call hours, if clinically indicated.
