Role overview
This is a key role for a motivated and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to take full ownership of the end-to-end payroll process
in a dynamic, high-growth residential property management business.
Reporting to the Head of People, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and compliant processing of payroll, pensions,
benefits, and statutory deductions, while serving as the first point of contact for all payroll-related queries.
You’ll play a critical part in supporting our people and enabling business growth by driving continuous improvement and

The role is based in Manchester at our offices in the Northern Quarter, with the opportunity to work a few days from home once
fully established in role and according to business needs.
What will you do?
Payroll Processing
* Manage the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payment of salaries, bonuses, and other compensation.
* Collect and verify payroll data, including timesheets, overtime, deductions, and leave requests.
* Calculate and process payroll adjustments, such as bonuses, commissions, and deductions.
* Stay updated on relevant legislation and regulations to ensure compliance with tax laws and other statutory requirements.
* Manage the full deductions of earnings (DEA) process, including court orders, attachment of earnings, and other statutory and
voluntary deductions, ensuring accuracy and legal compliance.
Submission to Payroll Provider
* Prepare and submit payroll data to the external payroll provider on a monthly basis.
* Review payroll reports and ensure accuracy before finalising submissions.
* Coordinate with the payroll provider to resolve any discrepancies or issues that may arise during processing.
Pension Scheme Management
* Administer the company's pension scheme, including enrolment, contributions, and compliance with pension regulations.
* Communicate pension-related information to employees and provide guidance on pension options and benefits.
* Liaise with pension providers to address any queries or concerns and ensure smooth operation of the scheme.
First Point of Contact for Payroll Queries
* Serve as the primary point of contact for colleagues and managers regarding payroll-related inquiries.
* Respond promptly and professionally to queries regarding salaries, deductions, taxes, and other payroll matters.
* Provide guidance and support to employees on payroll processes, policies, and procedures.
Reporting and Statistics
* Generate and provide payroll reports and statistics as requested by management or other stakeholders.
* Analyse payroll data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvement.
* Prepare ad-hoc reports and presentations on payroll-related metrics and KPIs.
New Starters and Leavers
* Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for new starters and leavers, including setting up payroll profiles, issuing
P45s, and calculating final payments.
* Coordinate with HR and relevant departments to ensure smooth onboarding and offboarding processes from a payroll perspective.
Management of Company Benefits
* Oversee company benefits programs, including salary sacrifice schemes, and ensure compliance with regulations and company
policies.
* Communicate benefit options to employees and facilitate enrolment and changes as needed.
* Collaborate with benefits providers to address inquiries, resolve issues, and optimise benefit offerings.
* Lead on the P11D process, including preparation, reporting, and submission to HMRC in line with statutory deadlines.
Additional Responsibilities
* Act as a subject matter expert, staying informed about changes in payroll regulations and best practices.
* Support payroll audits and take the lead on addressing any findings or compliance gaps.
* Collaborate closely with the Finance Team for month end and year end reconciliations, reporting and audit preparation.
* Proactively identify and implement improvements to payroll systems, processes, and policies to drive efficiency and accuracy.
* Continuously review and refine payroll workflows to ensure they support business growth and scalability.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records in compliance with GDPR and internal data retention policies
* Be a trusted advisor to the business on payroll-related queries, providing insights and guidance where needed.
What are we looking for?
Essential:
* Proven experience in a standalone or lead payroll role, ideally within a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
* Experience working with external payroll providers (e.g., managing submissions, checking reports, resolving discrepancies).
* Proficient in payroll systems and Microsoft Excel (e.g., vlookups, pivot tables).
* Experience dealing with confidential and sensitive information with integrity and discretion
* Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, tax, and statutory compliance requirements.
* Solid understanding of pension scheme administration, including auto-enrolment requirements and salary sacrifice arrangements.
* Enthusiastic and flexible with a positive and professional approach to work.
* Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
* Passionate for continuous improvement, with demonstrable experience.
* Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills.
* Ability to work autonomously, take initiative and prioritise tasks to meet tight deadlines.
Desirable:
* CIPP (or actively working towards it) or equivalent payroll qualification.
