Grounds Operative Location: Taunton Deane Crematorium Employer: Somerset Council | Contract: 23 June – 31 August 2025 Hours: 37 per week | Monday to Friday, 07:30–16:00 Rate: PAYE £12.65/hr | Umbrella £16.71/hr |

What You’ll Be Doing:
Strimming, mowing, and maintaining grassed areas and displays.
Hand weeding, cultivating and pruning flower and shrub beds—including formal planting and rose care.
Trimming hedges and topiary to keep the grounds visually peaceful and well-kept.
Clearing leaves and detritus, ensuring paths and areas remain accessible and dignified.
Watering and general upkeep of the Crematorium gardens and active churchyards.
Working Environment:
This role is based at the Taunton Deane Crematorium, where the grounds serve as a space of remembrance and calm. Sensitivity and professionalism are essential, as funerals and visits by the bereaved take place daily.
What We’re Looking For:
Experience in grounds maintenance using professional equipment like strimmers and commercial mowers.
A flexible, team-focused approach and the ability to work independently when needed.
Strong communication and a respectful attitude in emotionally sensitive settings.
Basic DBS check required (Enhanced DBS not necessary).
