Miner

The Role

To carry out tasks set by site management, and be responsible for carrying out shaft sinking, timber headings, open-cut piping, general groundworks, reinstatements and ensure a high level of health and safety.

Barhale’s civil engineering and infrastructure projects are varied in value, complexity, and duration, from established frameworks to individual bespoke projects and unplanned emergency works. With projects varying from £200k to £10 m+.

Key Responsibilities

Operate and carry out job set tasks

  • Ensure that you have been briefed and understand all relevant risk and method statements
  • Use best/safe practice when carrying out any tasks
  • Carry out safety checks on equipment in use and ensure proper process is followed to report issues
  • Ensure a safe, tidy place of work
  • Read and understand the instructions and drawings for your specific section of work

Ensure the completion of works is on time

  • Implement best practice procedures
  • Maximise use of own working time
  • Ensure all permits are in place before commencing any work
  • Ensure the work is on schedule and delivered safely

Communication with site management

  • Communicate with the site supervisor about any concerns
  • Feedback to site management regarding near-miss reporting
  • Be sure to attend all site briefings, forums, and toolbox talks

Key Measures and Targets

  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and following best practice
  • Ensure the planned works are delivered on time

About you

Essential

  • Previous experience in shaft sinking, jacking, and underpinning
  • Experience in timber heading mining technique
  • Experience in installing temporary works such as sheeted pits, cofferdam headings, and frames
  • Experience in open-cut pipe installation
  • CSCS card
  • City and Guilds Confined Spaces
  • Health and Safety Awareness

Desirable

  • SSSTS
  • CPCS Slinger Signaller
  • NRSWA
  • First Aid
  • Service avoidance - EUSR HSG47
  • Safety Critical Medical
