Claremont is looking for a highly organised and proactive lead science technician with a specialism in chemistry to join our science department. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the delivery of outstanding science education in a well-resourced and forward-thinking school.
About the Role:As the lead science technician, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the technician team and ensuring the smooth running of practical science lessons across all key stages, including A level. You will also act as the dedicated chemistry technician, managing the preparation and safe handling of chemicals and equipment.
Key responsibilities include:
Coordinating the preparation and delivery of practical resources and demonstrations
Managing chemical inventories, ordering, and safe storage in line with COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines
Conducting and overseeing risk assessments and promoting safe working practices
Monitoring departmental expenditure and liaising with heads of science
Supporting staff and students with equipment use and practical set-ups
Leading the technician team, with line management responsibilities depending on experience
We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable individual with:
A relevant NVQ Level 2 in Laboratory Technical Skills or a science degree
A strong background in chemistry and experience in a school or laboratory setting
Excellent organisational, communication and IT skills
A calm, efficient and flexible approach, especially under pressure
