Clinical/Managerial Clinical line management of the ED department non-medical teams and liaising with patient liaison services, divisional managers, lead nurses and matrons to ensure a high standard of service delivery. Maintains effective relationships with the multi-disciplinary teams (MDT) to ensure continuity of patient care. Ensures that the duty rota reflects the workload in the department, allocating leave appropriately to ensure service delivery is not compromised Responsible for the 24/7 co-ordination of clinical nursing resource with day-to-day management of all areas ensuring safe staffing is achieved across the department Ensures that departmental resources are used in an appropriate and cost-effective manner, and ensuring that all appropriate stock, risks and incidents are reported Organise repair/maintenance of equipment, ensure that stock levels of consumables are adequate and cost effective. Supervise the work of the department team addressing any issues with practice in a timely manner, and keeping the General Manager informed Communicates effectively to patients and staff, providing and receiving highly complex, sensitive or contentious information. Persuasive, motivational, training, negotiation, empathic and reassurance skills are used as required Ensures adherence to the Emergency Department Early Warning Score (EDEWS) escalation process to maintain patient flow and support achievement of the national standard of 95% of patients processed by the ED within 4 hours Hold and manages the areas nursing pay and non-pay budget and is the authorised signatory for the allocated areas Contribute to the divisional financial balance, cost improvement and income generation plans Work collaboratively with the GM, Matron and Head of Nursing for the division to escalate issues and concerns, celebrate achievements and opportunities for staff and service development within nursing, patient safety and patient experience Analyse data and provide reports as required in response to ED performance, roster exceptions, finance etc. Quality/Governance To participate in the delivery of the clinical governance and risk management agenda of the department and Trust Adheres to the Trusts procedures for managing incidents; developing and where appropriate liaising with therapy and medical staff in order to devise action plans to address any risk issues and communicating any changes in practice to all staff. Investigates and prepares statements as requested to assist in investigations. To develop and maintain effective communication systems with all personnel internal and external to the Trust To participate in multi-disciplinary clinical audit to ensure standards are continually reviewed and developed Work in partnership with the General Manager and Clinical Lead to develop, take forward and evaluate direction, policies and strategies.
