The Platform Engineering team is on a mission to create the next generation technical platform for Lloyds Banking Group, a single platform consumed by every engineer and platform across the entire group, you'll be at the heart of one of the UK's biggest financial service technical transformations.
We're looking for an experienced and passionate Lead Software Engineer Leader to work on our flagship Internal Developer Platform.
The ideal candidate will have an exceptional track record with demonstrable experience as a Lead Software Engineer leading a team "hands on" to build performant and maintainable backend solutions. The candidate will also have a passion for technology and a commitment to delivering high-quality, scalable solutions.
What you'll do

Bring thought and engineering leadership, education and mentorship covering your key skill areas to support different teams on those topics, and drive upskilling of your team in a "player / coach" model

Lead the engineering team "hands-on" with the delivery of features, from prototype to production, ensuring they are well tested, secure, and meet our engineering standards.

Lead system design work, collaborating with colleagues from across the business, including Senior Management and other Subject Matter Experts.

Shape the product roadmap to ensure we're delivering the right features for our customers, contributing to the overall strategy of the Group

As a key member of our IDP development community, you'll build, maintain, and evolve our capabilities whilst embracing the best industry standards.

Communicate & collaborate with other teams & collaborators of varying levels of technical background, including Senior Management, both internally and externally

What you'll need
-
Extensive experience of several high-level programming languages, preferably Python or ReactJS / Typescript

Hands-on experience building solutions for the public cloud in both Azure & GCP
-
Significant experience building solutions following Infrastructure as Code best practices employing Terraform and Hashicorp Vault secrets engines

Knowledge of building and consuming RESTful APIs
-
Experience using relational or NoSQL Cloud databases
-
Experience working with, and building, CI/CD pipelines.

Ensures that quality is part of everything that you and your team do, including test automation, quality engineering and robust release management practices.

Insists on and has experience of the leading automated testing frameworks promoting a thorough & sound approach to enterprise release management.
It would be great if you also had

Good working knowledge of Backstage.io and supporting ecosystem

Good working knowledge of the industry concepts of Internal Developer Platform and Golden Paths or Paved Roads

Knowledge of building secure solutions.

Experience with serverless and containerisation technologies
