Summary
Immigration Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the government’s immigration laws, tackling illegal migration, removing foreign national offenders and immigration offenders from the UK. The Immigration Enforcement (IE), Detention Services, Security Team (DSST) are responsible for ensuring the private contractor service providers, who are responsible for managing Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs), do so effectively, safely and securely and in accordance with Home Office policies and operating standards.
The Security Officer role is key to the assurance processes to ensure those requirements are met and where necessary identify and highlight existing or potential risks.
The team conduct procedural and physical security reviews within the IRCs estate as well as providing subject matter expert advice and reports on both physical and procedural security matters.
The wider team also covers a variety of other work areas including Intelligence and use of force. Given this, there may be a requirement for the successful candidate to occasionally support these teams.
Due to ever evolving security threats and priorities, it is key that the Security Officer is flexible and has a keen interest in security, intelligence and use of force.
Key Responsibilities
The job holder will be required to carry out the following duties:
- Undertake localised in-depth operational security review work in IRCs using analytical skills to make independent judgements regarding performance against DS Operating Standards, supplier contractual agreements and Detention Service Orders (DSOs) and the quality of service delivered.
- Assist to implement and maintain a support system with local Home Office compliance teams and contracted service providers in a structured format to monitor progress against security recommendations.
- Act as a central information source that shares security related advice, guidance and support across both DS, local compliance teams and contract service providers, highlighting risks, common themes, patterns and trends.
- Work under their own initiative to identify examples of good practice and areas for improvement, making recommendations to inform development and commissioning of new DS processes and Detention Service Orders (DSOs).
- Deliver security specific awareness up-skilling to Home Office staff.
- Act as a point of contact and liaison during rostered on call duties, providing security advice to local compliance teams.
- Assist in the administrative processes involved in regular meetings held and chaired by DSST.
- Compile and publish monthly dashboards to report on security areas of the business.
Working Pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.
Successful candidates will need to be able to attend for all shifts including early starts, late night finishes, and overnight shifts. These shifts may be outside of public transport operating hours.
Training
You will receive full training and support to do the job. You will be required to confirm your medical and physical fitness to undertake the role, by completing personal safety training, specific to Detention Services (DS) operational areas, when joining the team, and every 12 months thereafter. You will need to be comfortable working within a custodial detention environment and deploying to residential units as part of your role.
