Wakefield Council are looking to recruit some hardworking individuals who are looking to start a career in leisure. This is a ‘Qualified’ lifeguard role is open to everyone who holds a valid National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).

Becoming a lifeguard is an excellent career choice at whatever stage of life and a great place to start if you are looking for a career in leisure. Many of our lifeguards go onto continue their careers by becoming, Fitness Consultants, Swimming Teachers, or Assistant Managers. The life skills learnt whilst working with ourselves can be widely used and transferred to other jobs as you will hold a level 3 first aid qualification. Should you be successful in your application to this role, you will be provided with training and support towards your NPLQ with further opportunities to gain additional leisure qualifications.

Lifeguards learn first aid and lifesaving skills during their training and play an essential role in ensuring that the public is safe around water. The role of a lifeguard is varied, maintaining safety in and around the pool, educating swimmers about water safety, giving first aid, and conducting rescues in emergencies. Lifeguards working in pools with dry side facilities may also have responsibility for tasks within those areas such as setting up equipment or helping out on reception.

Please note our full time Lifeguard including shifts of; early morning starts, evenings and ‘one in three’ weekend.
