More detail about the role An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Associate Genetic Technologist to join our large and friendly laboratory, which provides a comprehensive laboratory diagnostic genetics service. The Apprenticeship will be delivered by blended learning from the University of Staffordshire. There will be nine on-campus study days per year, some of which will be double days and therefore overnight stays in the Stoke-on-Trent area will be expected. Successful apprentices will achieve a BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science (Life Sciences). This qualification confers eligibility to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions as a Biomedical Scientist upon graduation. The course is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science and is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council. For further information about the course can be found here: www.staffs.ac.uk/apprenticeships/courses/biomedical-scientist-level-6#entry Eligibility criteria: Level 2 qualification in English and Maths (GCSE, Functional Skills or equivalent) Level 3 qualifications equivalent to 96 UCAS points or above (applicants with prior experience will be assessed on an individual basis) Be able to live and work in the UK. Must have lived in the UK for the past 3 years consecutively. Must have an acceptable VISA/BRP that meets the Apprenticeship funding rule requirements. Must not be on another government funded programme or apprenticeship. Please note: Candidates with previous education to a Level 6 (degree) qualification or above in Healthcare Science or equivalent are not eligible to apply. The job description and person specification for this post relates to the expected outcomes at the end of the apprenticeship. If selected for interview, you will be required to present copies of your Level 2 certificates in English and Maths at interview as these are essential for entry onto the apprenticeship programme. Please note, the salary for this role will be calculated as: paid annex 21 - 65% of top of band 4 in year one, and 70% of top band 4 in year two, and 75% of top band 4 in year three. Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 09:00-17:30 Interview Date: To Be Confirmed Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2025/6 rates, inclusive of a 3.6% pay award which will be implemented later this year. If you join before the implementation date, the pay award will be backdated to your start date.
