We invite applications for a Research Software Engineer position, joining the recently formed DASS research programme.

DASS is an exciting collaboration between researchers at Lancaster University, the London School of Economics, the University of Bristol and the University of Warwick. The DASS Programme will consider the foundational statistical challenges of identifying anomalous structure in streams within constrained environments, handling the realities of contemporary data streams, and identifying and tracking dependence across streams. This £4M programme is funded by EPSRC and brings together research groups from the four participating institutions together with a committed group of industrial and public sector partners.

This programme will be led by Idris Eckley (Lancaster University), Haeran Cho (University of Bristol), Paul Fearnhead (Lancaster University), Qiwei Yao (London School of Economics) and Yi Yu (University of Warwick).

Based at Lancaster University, this two year position will work with researchers on the DASS programme to develop and promote freely available software, implementing new statistical methods and algorithms for identifying anomalous structure in stream settings. This position is a key part of DASS’ approach to maximising economic and societal impact from new statistical ideas. The role will also provide an opportunity to act as a beacon for good statistical computing, disseminating best practice and providing mentorship amongst the DASS research community, including PhD students affiliated with the programme.

You should have a postgraduate degree in Statistics or a related discipline. You will have extensive knowledge of R and Python, including package development and experience of the academic research software development cycle, including deployment, maintenance and user support. You should also have a demonstrable ability to publish, including the ability to produce high quality academic writing is essential for this post.

This is a full-time position, though we will consider applicants requesting part-time or other flexible working arrangements. We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.

Informal inquiries can be made by contacting Prof Idris Eckley (i.eckley@lancaster.ac.uk).
