Lesney Ward is a 20 bed mixed gender, acute patient ward based at the Woodlands Unit, Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup in Bexley. The ward receives an estimated 25 inpatient admissions per month, roughly between 7 to 10 admissions per week. The average length of stay is around 21 days. 60-75% of the inpatient caseload is detained under the Mental Health Act.
The post holder will provide senior medical cover for all acute inpatients admitted to the ward, and be the Responsible Clinician (RC) for all detained inpatients.
The post-holder along with the allocated junior doctors will be responsible for all mental health act work related to inpatients and along with other team members ensure that admitted patients have good quality care and that the Trusts quality indicators are not breached.
It is expected that the post holder will work very closely with the ward manager to deliver high quality evidence based clinical care to inpatients and take a lead on clinical governance including the delivery of key performance indicators, learning from incidents and service user feedback action plans.
· To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
· To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
· To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and to abide by professional codes of conduct.
· To participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation.
· To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services
