Our Caerphilly Homelessness service is looking for a motivated, passionate, and engaging Floating Support Workers to join their team. Our service delivers support to people who are homeless and have been placed in temporary accommodation.

Job Specifics:

Full Time – 18.5 hours
Permanent Contract
Hourly rate - £12.75 p/h
Work Pattern: office hrs

For this role it is essential to have a full driver's licence and access to a car.

What is great about the role?

Our Caerphilly Homelessness Support service goes a long way in helping to tackle homelessness by giving opportunities to street homeless people who feel like there is no other option for them. This is a dynamic role where you will be out and about most of the time delivering the essential support needed to help people who have been placed in temporary, supported accommodation.

This is also a highly rewarding role where you can make a positive difference to someone’s life by finding them somewhere to live as well as supporting them to engage with external services and agencies that can provide them with the much-needed support they require.

Day to Day Duties:

As a Floating Support Worker your day will consist of:

Managing your own caseload
Traveling to the people we support’s temporary accommodation or public place
Engaging and interacting with the people we support to establish goals to work towards
Providing support around finances, health, welfare benefits, housing options and tenancy management skills
Working with external agencies and signposting the people we support to the appropriate services suited to their needs, specifically treatment and mental health services

Our aim is to ensure we equip these individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to manage their home independently. This is a challenging role, and you will be faced with complex behaviours and needs. You will work directly with individuals who are currently within temporary accommodation. You will be responsible for carrying out housing and support assessments, and to work closely with individuals to ensure resettlement, including tenancy support and any on-going support as appropriate to individual needs.

You will work with a range of different personalities and behaviours so you will need to be able to adapt your approach to engage with a diverse cliental as well as be committed to and have a clear understanding of the organisations and agencies you can work with to best support them.

Who we are looking for:

Please demonstrate in your application form how you:

Have knowledge of housing related support and benefit systems
Have good organisation, IT and record keeping skills
Can work part of a team and on an individual basis
Deal with difficult situations
Have good listening skills
To be a great Support Worker, you need energy, enthusiasm, integrity and to treat people with dignity and respect. You need to be reliable because people are depending on you. You also need to be a great communicator, both verbally and in writing and have basic IT and numerical skills.

You don’t always need previous experience or qualifications. A good understanding of housing related support and welfare benefits, or awareness of issues faced by people at risk of homelessness would be useful in the role.
