This role is based at the University’s Main Library, 30 George Square, Edinburgh in the heart of our Central Campus. There may be an occasional need to work from an alternative location to meet business needs (occasional overtime offered also). You will be part of the greater team of Facilities Assistants and there will be opportunity for overlap / skill sharing with this team.

Working hours are 8am to 5pm with 60-minute unpaid lunchbreak. The working pattern consists of one day on Saturday or Sunday i.e., 9 hours per week (0.26) Full Time Equivalent [FTE]), where standard Full Time Equivalent (1.0 FTE) is 35 hours per week.

What the job involves:

Respond to everyday enquiries, for example location of rooms, referring to others (e.g., Helpdesk) as necessary
Collect, collate and respond to student feedback
React and assist in the event of incidents and emergencies e.g., floods, emergency evacuation of buildings, operation of the emergency evacuation lift and supervision of emergency exits
Participate as required in compliance activities such as fire drills and fire alarm testing

Experience of front line public and customer service in a busy and demanding environment
A flexible attitude, not afraid to multi-task, take on new activities or help other team members
Ability to communicate effectively and with tact and diplomacy both verbally and written with a wide range of people
Ability to understand and follow instructions and procedures
Self- motivated and a team player
Valid UK Driving License
Desirable Criteria:

Experience of building security and safety procedures
