The Public Safety Group’s role is to keep the public safe by cutting crime, disrupting the highest harm criminals, protecting the vulnerable and ensuring that our police, fire and rescue services are as efficient and effective as they can be in delivering front line public services. We work with our partners in other government departments, local government and the voluntary sector to develop and implement policy, provide funding, and deliver legislation.
Britain’s emergency services work 24/7 to serve the public in some of the most dangerous and challenging situations. To help them do their job even better the Emergency Services Network (ESN) Programme is creating the next generation mobile communications network, including secure and resilient voice and broadband data services, which will be used by thousands of front-line police officers, paramedics and fire-fighters.
ESN will allow emergency service professionals to work together more efficiently and effectively when incidents and accidents occur by sharing data across the new digital network. The new network is dynamic and can take advantage of new technology as it develops, making sure that those doing the vital job of protecting the public and saving lives get the best and most modern communications tools available.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a busy Programme Director’s Office in a fast paced, critical cross Government Programme and develop an understanding of project delivery at pace with opportunities to grow and develop your skills.
The responsibilities of this position will be wide-ranging and require you to be collaborative, flexible and prepared to take on a variety of challenging tasks as the programme develops and moves forward.
As an Executive Assistant in the Director’s Office, you will have a key role in supporting the Senior Leadership Team to deliver the programme. The role is varied providing executive support to multiple Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members and undertaking governance activities in relation to key leadership meetings.
The team works together to deliver an executive service to the senior leaders. You will be allocated specific senior leaders to support daily but will be required to support other leaders to cover for absent colleagues and to support each other according to demand.
You will need excellent organisational, communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion. You will show good judgement, establish and maintain across Home Office network of colleagues and be able to juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities:
- Diary and inbox management.
- Delegating tasks appropriately to senior leaders.
- Preparing and distributing agendas and papers for key meetings.
- Administrative logistics, for example travel bookings, escorting visitors and archiving documentation.
- Supporting the on-boarding of new starters.
- Secretariat support for the ESMCP Governance Boards and other meetings.
- Build and maintain good working relationships with opposite numbers across government to ensure directors are appropriately briefed.
- Research guidance and instructions to inform senior leaders of correct processes to follow.
Working Pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis. However, job-share is available.
Travel
Occasional travel to other Home Office locations may be required.
