University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for a detailed job description of the role.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated pharmacist to join the medication safety team. A 1-year part-time opportunity is available to deputise for the Trust Medicines Safety Officer (MSO) and develop your teaching skills.

This will provide opportunities to direct and implement trust-wide change to improve medicines safety. Working closely with the Consultant Pharmacist for Medicines Safety, you will develop your leadership skills and put them into practice. Chairing the Trust Medicines safety group and attending the Drugs Committee will require an organised and methodical approach.

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHSwe’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

As deputy MSO, you will deploy your skills to improve reporting and learning in medicines safety, primarily within prescribing. Providing feedback to prescribers, supporting reflection and identifying strategies and system changes to help improve medication safety.

As chair of the Trust's medicines safety group, you will lead discussions on a range of medicines safety topics, ensuring every voice is heard and a consensus reached. In addition, you will join the regional and national medicines safety networks.

The role will also entail managing and supporting prescribing training for the University of Southampton Medical School. You will need to be highly organised and be able to plan educational sessions well in advance with your colleagues. You will be able to apply learning directly from your knowledge of prescribing errors into the curriculum.

You will need to demonstrate a willingness to learn and be curious about the systems our staff work with. You will need to be comfortable having challenging conversations with a range of staff and patients.

The hours are flexible with a mixture of on-site and working from home opportunities.
