Lightning Protection Designer/Estimator (129jc) – Blidworth/With up to 50% Travel – up to £45k depending on experience + Benefits
Are you a hands-on, technically minded individual from an engineering, signals, or electrical background? Ready to apply your military precision and leadership to a dynamic civilian career?
DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.
My client is seeking a Lightning Protection Designer/Estimator to join their growing technical team. This hybrid field-and-office-based role is ideal for those with a background in electrical systems, or engineering trades – especially those familiar with risk assessments, installations, or compliance.
What You’ll Do:
• Conduct on-site surveys, including soil resistivity testing and risk assessments
• Design lightning, surge, and specialist earthing protection systems (training provided)
• Use CAD and bespoke software (e.g., StrikeRisk – full training included)
• Estimate and scope installation, remedial, and maintenance works
• Produce technical reports, schematics, and inspection documentation
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver solutions on time and on budget
• Travel to UK-wide client sites; lodging provided where needed, as there will be about 50% nationwide travel.
Why Veterans? My client values military skills such as:
• Mission planning & execution
• Adherence to technical standards and health & safety
• Working under pressure in varied environments
• Communication, reporting, and cross-functional teamwork
• Security clearance eligibility (MOD vetting required – must have 5 years UK residency)
What they are looking for:
• Formal engineering qualification or equivalent trade background
• 18th Edition qualified OR willing to train in BS EN 62305 (Lightning Protection Standards)
• Experience with electrical, force protection, or comms systems ideal
• Strong IT literacy – Excel, Outlook, design software
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Willingness to stay away from home as needed
What You’ll Get:
• Structured training and ongoing development
• Clear progression into project management and specialist engineering
• A supportive team environment that respects your background
• Competitive salary of between £35 – 45k depending on skills and experience, as well as a benefits package which is currently under review that includes 22 days + BH
• Working Mon – Fri 8.30 to 5pm
If you’ve served in the Royal Engineers, REME, Signals, RAF Engineering, Royal Navy Engineering Branch or similar – this role could be your next step as they are happy to see candidates who have a minimum of 18th Edition qualification and a desire to develop and grow into this career, however your starting salary will be at the lower end of the bracket.
