About you:

We have exciting opportunity for a role as a Senior Planning Officer in our Development Management team. This is a rare opportunity for someone who has a passion for planning and wants to get involved in shaping our city, which is consistently rated as one of the best places to live, work, and study in the UK. We're seeking a knowledgeable and skilled professional with a degree in Town and Country Planning, Architecture, or a related discipline. The ideal candidate will have postgraduate experience in planning and a deep understanding of wide variety of planning issues. You should possess excellent communication skills, be able to manage a diverse caseload, and have a commitment to delivering high-quality development while helping to conserve our city's heritage and green spaces. Strong organisational skills, an ability to work under pressure, and a flexible approach to work are essential. Membership of the RTPI is desirable.

About the role:

As a Senior Planning Officer, you'll play a crucial role in managing a diverse caseload of planning applications, including more complex development proposals. These are likely to involve navigating complex challenges such as flood issues, protecting our city's heritage assets and beautiful landscape, whilst driving quality outcomes that enhance Exeter's unique character.

You'll be providing expert guidance to our customers, manage appeals and help investigate unauthorised works. The role will involve presenting schemes to councillors, and working collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes.

Beyond the day-to-day casework, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to policy development and strategic planning initiatives that will shape Exeter's future growth. About the team:

You'll be joining the Development Management team within ‘City Development’. Our team is dedicated to delivering excellent planning services that balance the needs of development whilst protecting Exeter's unique character. You will be working closely with the city's large Development Management team, as well as a team of specialists in :- Urban Design, Historic buildings, Archaeology, Ecology and Trees. You'll be part of a collaborative environment that values expertise, passion, and a commitment to public service.
