Salary: QTS/UQTS pro rata per annum

Hours: 19.5 per week (16 contact hours in schools)

Location: The Lyceum and various schools throughout Oldham.

Closing Date: Sunday 29th June 2025

Role Overview:

  • To work as a peripatetic teacher Oldham Music Service, providing small group and whole class tuition in schools as well as undertaking a role in relevant ensembles within the Music Centre.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To deliver instrumental and/or curriculum music tuition in L.A. schools
  • To monitor, record and report on pupils’ progress in a concise and literate manner to an agreed Music Service format.
  • To conduct, administer or assist with relevant Music Centre groups in rehearsals and concerts as required.
  • To direct / assist with relevant school groups as reasonable and appropriate
  • To attend and take part in concerts and festival performances as required
  • To promote the work of the Music Service and the work of the Oldham Music Centre in a positive way to schools, parents and teachers
  • To attend staff briefings and meetings as required
  • To meet deadlines including school reports, concert programmes and student transfer details
  • To undertake other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time


Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:

  • Relevant practical music/performance qualification
  • Relevant music teaching experience within school / music service environment.
  • Experience of performing as a musician to a high standard.
  • An ability to teach to diploma standard.
  • Ability to work with and motivate pupils of all ages and abilities
  • Knowledge of technical and practical issues relating to small group tuition and whole class delivery
  • Good standard of written and spoken English.
  • Car ownership and / or the ability to travel between schools and other settings as required.
  • Ability to use IT applications in relation to the requirements of the post
  • Experience of team working and to work effectively with others
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well organised, reliable and punctual
  • Willing to learn new skills
  • Willingness to work flexibly to meet the needs of the Music Service including out of hours if necessary
