This post is based within the Advice Shop where the successful candidate will work to promote financial inclusion and alleviate poverty through advice and advocacy in the areas of welfare benefits/appeals, money/budgeting, housing and energy advice.
The post holder will work with various vulnerable groups of people who are facing financial difficulties or looking for information and advice about improving their long term financial outlook.
The post holder will be responsible for delivering advice to all West Lothian residents with a focus on working with older people and those with a disability and/or a long term health condition in particular looking at the causes of poverty and maximising efforts to help mitigate poverty locally. There will a key focus of developing actions and outcomes to from part of the Community Planning Partnerships Tackling Poverty Strategy’s action plan and help demonstrate the impact of these actions on the target groups.
They will deliver training to colleagues and partners, organise information events, deliver talks & presentations to relevant groups.
The post holder should also have a high level of research and analytical skills, experience giving money/debt, benefits, energy or housing advice is essential. Experience organising events and delivering training desirable.
This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011 preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council
