We are currently looking for an Apprentice HGV Technician to join our Norse Highways Division based in Hethersett, Norfolk.
As an Apprentice HGV Technician your role will be to support the workshop maintenance programme through basic maintenance and servicing of fleet vehicles. Service small plant tools and emergency equipment, including completion of paperwork in line
with manufacturers recommendations. Also, you will attend Rural Campus, Suffolk New College on day release or when required to work towards a Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance.
About the role
As an Apprentice HGV Technician, you will work closely with a skilled team, gaining hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy goods vehicles, other duties will include:
- Carrying out minor repairs and servicing to vehicles operated by Norfolk County Council and Norse so that they are fit and safe to use.
- Steam cleaning, loading and presenting vehicles for MOT testing.
- Providing a servicing and repair service for Highways and Fire Service plant and equipment.
- Issuing servicing paperwork in line with manufacturers recommendations.
- Assisting technicians with servicing and repairs in workshops or off-site at stations where jobs require two or more people to ensure Health and Safety standards are met.
- Inspecting, maintaining and repairing Fire Service ladders and water equipment when required to ensure they are fully operational and safe to use in accordance with European and British standards.
- Diagnosing and repairing faults on water and Hydraulic Rescue equipment and carrying out checks on Norfolk Fire and Rescue assets.
- Attending manufacturer and in-house training courses for specialist equipment as required.
- General housekeeping and workshop/site duties as required.
- Other support duties as necessary which will support technicians with aspects of their role.
- Regularly attend college and work towards the Level 3 qualification.
- Willingness to learn In-depth knowledge of vehicles including Ancillary equipment.
- General awareness of Health and Safety issues associated within a workshop environment.
- Knowledge of information technology to be able to use computerised systems.
- A keen interest in mechanical procedures
