Summary
This role is based in the UK and will be working on site in our UK based College.
In order to comply with our mandatory pre-employment checks, the successful candidate will be required to provide original identification documents in person to our UK based People Services Department.
This role has a September start and is pro rata. The salary you will be receiving is £7,994.60 per annum. For any roles that start part way through the academic year, the annual salary will be pro rata to the remaining months.
**The working days are Tuesday & Wednesday 08.45am to 16.15pm. Travel will be required to Rugby and Moreton Morrell on an as-needed basis.**

Any offers of appointment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly CRB), a certificate of good conduct if applicable, plus receipt of satisfactory references, Occupational Health clearance, an understanding of safeguarding and qualifications verification. An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position as you will be working within 'Regulated Activity' within a specific place (i.e. the College).

BACKGROUND TO THE POST

To ensure that all our students reach their potential and are not discriminated against we wish to appoint a Communication Support Worker to Deaf/Hearing Impaired students to join our established, experienced team within our Centre for Deaf Students.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST
The main purpose of the post is to provide specialist support to deaf or hearing impaired students within their learning programmes. The post holder will be part of the Inclusion Team and report directly to the Coordinator for Services to Deaf Students. The majority of time will be spent with students in the classroom providing Communication Support. The support aims to encourage the deaf student to achieve autonomy and as far as possible operate with independence within their environment to promote confidence and achieve success on their course.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Working within the Inclusion team, you will be working with a variety of students and be expected to meet the College's standards of work.
Interpreting using British Sign Language.
Performing the role of a Learning Support Assistant during class.
Note Taking, acting as a scribe during exams and lessons
Supporting the students out of class (assignment work etc) and during extracurricular activities,
such as educational trips or work experience.
Working closely with the curriculum to encourage inclusive learning.
Working closely with the Coordinator for Services to Deaf Students to plan and deliver a high quality, professional service.
Building glossaries of technical language for the student.
Promoting equality and integration of Deaf and Hearing Impaired students.
Develop, review and implement strategies during the academic year, using individual learning profiles and other college systems.
Communicate appropriate information to other staff including managers and course tutors.
Undertake record keeping and other administrative tasks, ensuring the confidential nature of the work as required.
Complete individual Risk Assessment and Individual Evacuation Plans.
Provide deaf awareness sessions to the students’ tutor groups, other related student groups and other external organisations where required.
Provide Learning Support to non-deaf students where appropriate.
OFFERS OF WORK
For the successful candidate a conditional offer of work will be made. Our offer of work will be conditional upon a number of mandatory pre-employment checks, to include but not limited to: DBS, Barred List check, right to work check, internet search, TRA check (academic posts).
ESSENTIAL ATTAINMENTS
✓GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics, or Level 2 equivalent qualification, or willingness to work towards once in post.
✓Level 2 or above qualification in British Sign Language or be a native BSL user having come from a deaf family/community.
✓Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
✓Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
DESIRABLE ATTAINMENTS
✓UK driving licence free from major endorsements and the use of a vehicle
✓Level 3 in BSL or working towards the qualification.
