The ultrasound department at The Great Western Hospital are seeking kind, compassionate and enthusiastic people to join our team of sonographers.

- Vascular
- Obstetrics
- General Medical and small parts

- Neck
- Musculo-skeletal
- Interventional

We are a team of 10 sonographers that work cohesively and closely with our radiologists, nurses, clinical support workers and fellow allied health professionals. Together we focus on the four main pillars of the Great Western Hospital; Service, Teamwork, Ambition and Respect.
The Great Western Hospital is situated in Swindon on good commuter routes to London, Wales and the South. Swindon offers a unique blend of history, culture and modern living and is a stones throw from the beautiful Cotswolds.
Clinical
1. To perform ultrasound scans including highly specialist techniques and care for patients during these examinations, respecting the rights of privacy and confidentiality, maintaining a high quality service to patients and clinicians.
2. To independently assess each patient and adapt scanning technique according to the needs of the patient.
3. To use discretion to work outside of departmental standards when clinically needed.
4. To write formal reports in a concise and professional manner.
5. To discuss ultrasound findings with other practitioners and clinicians.
6. To manage their own workload and help others when possible.
7. To contribute to the planning, organisation and smooth running of the area in which you are working, liaising with, clinicians and other staff within the trust and GP practices.
8. To maintain departmental stock levels.
9. To adhere to all Trust policies including the Health and Safety Regulations; COSHH Regulations; the Data Protection Act.
10. To be able to use the departmental radiology information computer system (RIS) and be conversant with the picture archive system (PACS).

To aid this recruitment challenge an introduction of a recruitment and retention premium (R&R) for these post would enhance the likelihood of a successful recruitment campaign. Recruitment and retention premium will be paid in two instalments: £5,000 in the first month of employment and a further £5,000 on the anniversary of the start date. Should they receive the recruitment premium and leave within the first four years of joining the Trust , there will be a requirement to pay back all or part of the payments depending on time served. For clarity on the repayment values, the day prior to the anniversary of start date will be the end of each year period, with the anniversary itself being the start of the new year period as defined below: 0-1 Year £5,000 instalment payback 1-2 Years – £2,500 instalment payback 2-3 Years - £1000 instalment payback.
11. To adhere to safe systems of work with regard to manual handling.
12. To participate in out of hours rota, working unsocial-able hours and weekends.
13. Have regular exposure to body fluids e.g. blood, urine etc and infection risk.
