Summary

Head Chef – Nursing Home | £34,500 |
Hours: 40 hours per week across 4 days (alternate weekends)

Our client, a beautifully appointed nursing home set within a characterful Victorian property, is looking for a passionate and experienced Head Chef to lead their kitchen team. The service prides itself on providing homely yet luxurious surroundings, excellent standards of care, and exceptional food tailored to a variety of dietary needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented and caring chef who thrives in a senior role and has prior experience within a care home or nursing home environment. If you’re someone who understands the importance of nutrition, texture, and taste in later life – and you enjoy working with fresh, quality ingredients in a supportive setting – this could be your perfect next step.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience as a Head Chef or Senior Chef within a care home or nursing home setting is essential.
  • Strong working knowledge of specialist diets, allergies, food textures (including IDDSI standards), and nutrition in older adults.
  • A valid Food Hygiene Certificate (minimum Level 2; Level 3 preferred).
  • Confident leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide others.
  • A compassionate and resident-focused approach to cooking.
  • Organised, calm under pressure, and enthusiastic about delivering great food.

What’s in it for you?

  • Company pension scheme
  • Alternate weekends off
  • Long service awards – your commitment is valued
  • Access to an internal training academy to support your development
  • Staff recognition programme – celebrating your hard work
  • Opportunities for career progression within a respected and growing service

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare and serve varied, balanced, and nutritious meals that cater to a wide range of dietary needs, including allergies, intolerances, and modified textures.
  • Lead, support, and develop a small kitchen team, ensuring smooth service and adherence to food safety standards.
  • Work collaboratively with care staff to ensure residents' dietary requirements are met and mealtime experiences are enjoyable and dignified.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen at all times.
  • Manage ordering, stock control and budget responsibilities with minimal waste.
  • Ensure full compliance with food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
