We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced Physiotherapist with broad acute clinical expertise to cover maternity leave in our Multi-speciality Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit. Clinical areas include Geriatric Medicine, Frailty, Acute Medicine, Stroke, and Neuro.
Based mainly in SDEC, the role involves supporting daily in-reach into ED to facilitate SDEC pathways and the Therapy Lead Pathway (TLP). You will support service demands and work with therapy teams across ED, GAU, B3, and virtual wards, collaborating with MDT colleagues including OT, SLT, and therapy support workers. Working closely with senior leaders, you will ensure adherence to guidelines and evidence-based practice.
The role offers training opportunities, especially with Geriatric Medicine and Stroke teams, promoting clinical and professional autonomy. You will provide education to ED staff on the SDEC therapy service. NUH supports 7-day working; flexibility across weekdays and weekends, including on-call duties, is required, with training provided.
Key responsibilities include strong communication with MDTs, thorough assessments, risk-aware discharge planning, and involvement in audit and service evaluation. You will support a Band 4 support worker, developing leadership skills, and build relationships with community services to support complex discharges. You will also provide teaching across services, managing your own complex caseload and contributing to service improvement projects.
In addition to the summary below you need to familiarise yourself with the full job description and person specification documents attached to this advert.
You will need excellent communication skills to facilitate close working relationships with members of multiple speciality MDT and already established Therapy teams across multiple admission pathways.
Alongside strong clinical skills across a wide range of specialities, the post holder will require a risk enabling attitude to discharge planning and a good knowledge of rapid comprehensive therapy assessments.
You will require skills in audit, service evaluation and development, as well as organisational and time management skills and the ability to motivate yourself and others.
You will assist in the management and support of a band 4 generic support worker alongside an Advanced Practitioner OT allowing you to develop your leadership, managerial and teaching skills.
You will require a comprehensive understanding of community services and the ability to build good working relationships with Front Door IDT clinicians to work collaboratively to support complex discharge planning and appropriate follow up for patients care.
You will be required to support a project management post to evaluate the effectiveness of the post and identify drivers for change, development of services using best practice guidelines, benchmarking with comparable services and service evaluation.
