The Role
We are looking for an engineer with a strong focus on industrial automation and PLC-based control systems, whilst having a good understanding of the mechanical aspects of industrial machinery. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys varied work, ranging from control panel design and PLC programming to on-site commissioning and troubleshooting. You'll work closely with our lead engineer and customers to deliver tailored automation solutions and support existing equipment.
Key Responsibilities
• Design of electrical circuits and production of electrical schematics.
• Design, development and programming of PLC-based control systems, mainly Siemens, Mitsubishi, and Lenze but could include almost any system.
• Fault-finding and troubleshooting of automation and electrical systems, having the ability to appreciate the mechanical aspects to quickly identify the root cause an effect a solution.
• Commissioning of automated systems on customer sites.
• Integration of sensors, drives, HMIs and other industrial components.
• Modifying and upgrading existing control systems.
• Collaborating with mechanical engineers to ensure system compatibility.
• Occasional mechanical assembly or support where needed.
Required Skills and Experience
• HND/Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience with PLC programming, utilising structured programming in a variety IEC 61131 languages.
• Familiarity with control panel layout and electrical schematics.
• Hands-on experience with system commissioning and fault-finding.
• Ability to work independently and adapt to different project requirements.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites, predominantly in the greater Stoke-on-Trent area, for installation, support and breakdown assistance.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Skills
• Experience with Servo system.
• Understanding of industrial networks such as Modbus TCP, EtherCAT, CC Link IE Field, Profinet.
• Experience integrating automation with mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with the ceramics sector.
