Across our Information Technology Services (ITS) Directorate we design, develop, implement and support a multitude of services, managed both on and off premise, that reach every household in the UK and our infrastructure teams help deliver complex digital solutions to millions of users.
As an Agency we operate both legacy applications on older systems, as well as utilising modern technologies like cloud and serverless solutions, but whilst we migrate onto new technologies it is important that we maintain the stability and security of our existing systems.
We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our dynamic team of infrastructure specialists.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for managing, supporting, designing and building some of the core infrastructure services that power both internal operations and public-facing services and play a key role in developing and maintaining robust infrastructure solutions.
During a standard working week you will be expected to work on a rota basis to ensure that the team can provide cover between 07:00-17:00 Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
Additionally, there is currently an obligation for all DVLA staff to attend their primary workplace for a minimum of 60% of their contracted hours – the team attend site on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week to comply with this requirement and maximise collaborative opportunities.
There is also an opportunity to be available on a rota basis to cover/undertake out of hours activities and provide on call cover to support delivery of the service (17:00 – 07:00 Monday to Friday, 24/7 on weekends and on public holidays) for which an extra allowance of up to £4,000 will be paid.
Responsibilities
- To support, maintain, administer and build Windows/VMware infrastructure to ensure services are integrated, delivered and operated as required
- To work with and support colleagues, taking ownership for complex infrastructure issues, engaging and co-ordinating across multiple infrastructure and application areas until resolution is achieved.
