Advanced Clinical Respiratory Physiologist (Band 7) Part-time (18.75 hrs)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Respiratory Physiologist to join our busy team at the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Respiratory Physiology service undertakes a wide variety of routine and complex respiratory diagnostics. It also provides a busy sleep and home ventilation service.
You will be self-motivated and have excellent interpersonal skills. You will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a clinical respiratory physiologist. You will have the ability to work under pressure and prioritise your individual workload, as well as be able to work effectively within a team and support development of junior staff. You must be able to provide evidence of continuing professional development and have experience in a wide range of diagnostic respiratory investigations.
You must possess a BSc in clinical science/physiology or equivalent and appropriate prior experience working as a Senior Clinical Respiratory Physiologist. RCCP/AHCS registration eligibility is essential.
To undertake a range of diagnostic respiratory investigations at highly specialist respiratory physiologist level and provide expert, clinically accurate reports, adhering to local and national guidelines. Provide expert knowledge and skills in a range of respiratory investigations, communicating results across a multidisciplinary team. Provide training to all relevant members of the MDT in the delivery of routine and complex respiratory investigations.
To work closely with the respiratory consultants, specialist nurses and other medical colleagues in providing clinical leadership and input into service development. To provide expert domiciliary NIV knowledge and training to wider MDT, working closely with the Lead Sleep and Home NIV clinician.
To facilitate the efficient and effective management of resources within respiratory physiology.
To contribute to the strategic development and daily operational management of the respiratory physiology service.
To act as a clinical role model and resource to staff, and demonstrate a commitment to evidence based/best practice care and clinical excellence, in order to optimise quality of care.
Ensure that the standards of the service delivered meet the national clinical standards and comply with the strategic aims of the Trust.

The post of Advanced Clinical Respiratory Physiologist is a role for an individual with expert knowledge and experience in performing, and reporting on, routine and complex respiratory/sleep diagnostics.
To deliver a structured in-house training scheme leading to provision of competencies in respiratory and sleep measurements.
The post holder will be an integral part of the Respiratory Physiology team and utilise strong leadership and managerial skills on a daily basis.
The role will be to provide mentorship and guidance to Respiratory Physiology team and support to the Deputy and Snr Chief Clinical Respiratory Physiologists.
The post-holder will provide an important role in delivering the cardiopulmonary exercise testing service. To lead during CPETs and demonstrate excellent analytical/reporting skills.
To provide line management to Clinical Respiratory Physiologists and visible high level leadership and support.
To support the Sleep Service, including full polysomnography studies, and specialise in the area of domiciliary CPAP/ NIV service and support the smooth running of this service.
The highest standards are expected in terms of the maintenance of equipment, quality control, laboratory safety and performance of tests.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
1. To undertake a wide range of highly complex diagnostic respiratory and sleep testing procedures within the Respiratory Physiology service, across sites.
2. To analyse, interpret and provide written reports from diagnostic testing procedures.
3. To work as an independent practitioner
4. To administer medication in accordance with Trust Policy as part of lung function investigation
5. To provide internal and external education and training to consultants, specialist nurses and other health care workers through presentation and practical training.
6. Develop, implement and maintain high standards of quality control and sterilisation/disinfection protocols.
7. Maintain and repair highly complex, expensive equipment.
8. To be responsible for the training and CPD of respiratory physiologists.
9. To be responsible for the development and management of databases/ information systems
10. To undertake performance reviews and monitoring of annual leave and sickness absence.
