Summary
We are the RSPCA Sunderland, Hartlepool & South Tyneside Branch, a small, independent local charity committed to improving the lives of animals in our community. As a separately registered branch of the RSPCA, we focus all of our efforts locally, providing welfare support, education and outreach initiatives.
Our Community Hub charity shop in Chester-le-Street plays a vital role in raising the funds we need to continue our work, and we’re looking for a friendly, proactive and responsible individual to join our small but mighty retail team.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a Part-Time (Thur, Fri, Sat 9am-5pm) Retail Assistant who can bring energy, empathy and initiative to our shop. Working closely with the Retail Lead, you’ll help to create a welcoming environment, maximise income through great customer service, and support our fantastic team of volunteers.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced retail environment
Operate the till and manage daily cash handling and takings
Sort, price and display donated stock effectively and creatively
Help with merchandising, stock rotation, and window displays
Supervise and mentor retail volunteers with patience and maturity
Follow instructions from the Retail Lead and work independently when required
Assist with charity events and fundraising initiatives
Maintain a clean, safe and organised shop environment
Act as a key holder, opening and closing the shop when needed
About You:
Reliable, friendly and confident working both independently and as part of a team
Able to manage volunteers with care and professionalism
Comfortable handling cash and working on the shop floor
Able to stay calm under pressure and deal with the public, including occasionally difficult situations
A good communicator with a positive attitude and a can-do approach
Passionate about animal welfare and the work of our charity, animal lovers welcome!
Retail experience (paid or voluntary) preferred
