Join us as an Assistant Director, Business Risk

If you have a background in risk management, and particularly in a Funds environment, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Depositary Services team, located in Edinburgh.

  • As a Risk lead, you’ll be the face of leading risk within our trustee and depositary services business
  • We need a self-driven individual to anticipate and assess the potential risks to the business and their impacts, including Operational Risk, Regulatory Risk, and risks arising from Financial Crime and Change Management
  • You’ll proactively drive the assessment of risk and maintain an effective risk framework.

What you'll do

You will be responsible for the identification and assessment of material risks, and in determining their position relative to agreed risk appetite, working closely with the leadership team of Depositary Services. You will be expected to lead the risk and control assessment activity for the business, including risk identification and mitigation taking account of the prevailing regulatory environment and product offering.

We’ll also look for you to:

  • Work closely with key stakeholders including but not limited to the Depositary Services Leadership Team, Second Line of Defence colleagues, Internal Audit, NatWest CASS team (Client Assets Sourcebook) to ensure Depositary Services operates an effective governance and control environment
  • Lead the implementation and alignment of the Group’s Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework for the business ensuring all required activities are undertaken and refreshed on an ongoing basis
  • Work with agreed Measure Owners to maintain Risk Appetite Statements (including Group measures, supplemental measures and operational limits) and own the Governance reporting to ensure measures remain fit for purpose and that any out of appetite measures have a clear return to appetite plan
  • Promote and embed a culture of proactive and pre-emptive risk management, including continuous improvement, and the attainment of operational risk objectives
  • Manage key Governance reporting to internal and external Forums including NWTDS Ltd Board
  • Report continuous assessment of risk using the new RCPA (Risk and Control Performance Assessment ) method
  • Managing direct reports, effectively planning and managing their team workload

The skills you'll need

We are looking for a highly skilled leader with experience of applying risk and control management in an operational context.

You will need strong knowledge of collective investment schemes and the funds industry as well as in-depth knowledge of the trustee and depositary market.

An understanding of the Funds industry and their products will be an advantage.

We’ll also want someone:

  • Who has an in-depth knowledge of the complex and ever-changing regulatory, statutory and legal environment, with the ability to manage a complex risk agenda
  • With excellent verbal and written communication skills along with influencing and negotiation skills
  • Who has a strong knowledge of risk assessment and scenario analysis methodologies
  • With proven experience in leading, directing and developing a team
