please see attached job description Knowledge Specialist knowledge underpinned by theory of the care and management of patients with cancers including with reference to; acute presentation of malignancy, complications of the disease process and progression of disease, patient pathways and current approaches to patient follow up. Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of national and local cancer issues and developments. Knowledge of national and local developments in relation to cancer survivorship Training RGN Level one and current NMC registration Evidence of study at Masters level in relevant subjects or willingness to work towards Communication Skills training at level 3 or equivalent or willingness to undertake. A relevant teaching qualification Evidence of relevant ongoing professional development including specialist courses in relevant subjects Experience Significant post registration experience in cancer nursing Experience of undertaking audit and evaluation Evidence of recent teaching experience Experience of involvement in change and development within a multidisciplinary team context. SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with complex and highly sensitive information with patients, relatives and colleagues Ability to work effectively within a team Ability to maintain relationships with colleagues within the Trust and other organisations Good assessment skills in interpreting complex patient conditions and deciding on the appropriate course of action Ability to apply excellent analytical and judgemental skills to interpret and compare a range of options of patient care Good planning and organisational skills Proven presentation and teaching skills Flexibility and adaptability to meet needs of a changing service Ability to cope with emotional issues presented in the course of work, and to support others Self motivated and ability to work without direct supervision. Main Duties & Responsibilities Of The Post Generic To provide specialist nursing advice underpinned by theory and experience to support patients and their families/carers To plan, develop, improve and promote the service ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective care To act as a specialist practitioner, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care in collaboration with senior colleagues achieved through systematic and holistic assessment, personalised care planning and onwards referral and discharge to primary care team To provide patients and staff with specialist advice to manage complex symptoms To develop and share expertise within the multidisciplinary team To develop and utilize the skills and expertise to act as a resource in the care of patients needs, ensuring an optimum level of service to patients and their carers To transcribe radiology requests on ICE following successful completion of the IR(M)E training course To ensure that all patients and families are aware of all treatment options, including clinical trials To work as patient advocate, to help negotiate the patient journey and ensure optimum care is provided to each patient To expertly deliver complex sensitive condition related information to patients and relatives To provide specialist support and advice in clinical areas, wards and outpatients, to optimise quality improvement opportunities. To analyse and respond to challenging and complex clinical situations utilising specialist knowledge and analytical and judgemental skills to assess a range of options to formulate solutions and recommendations To act as a change agent, using skills that will motivate and reassure staff through negotiation and training, to facilitate the change process Education To participate in the planning and delivery of formal and informal education programmes for patients, carers and all staff To ensure that professional knowledge and practice is regularly updated To take personal responsibility for learning and personal development through clinical supervision, appraisal and professional revalidation Management To plan the provision of day to day organisational tasks With support, manage a complex caseload based on flexible principles, priorities and the care needs of patients To participate in policy and service development and the development of protocols for specialist areas of work and for the wider healthcare community served by North Bristol Trust Participate in providing an initial response to complaints and queries, and have a working awareness of the North Bristol NHS Trusts complaints procedure Maintain accurate and concise records that produce statistical data for the purpose of evaluation and development of the service To keep accurate and up to date patient records To support the team leader with managing the team. Research and Audit To collate and record quantitative and qualitative data that provides evidence of productivity, outcomes and quality, through audit and research To regularly lead on and participate in clinical audit and research, including supporting clinical trials To promote a culture of evidence-based practice To be involved with health promotion
