Job Title - Medical Secretary (Part-Time 15 hours per week Tuesdays and Thursdays) Location - NHS GP Practice Salary - Competitive (depending on experience) Working Hours - Part-Time (15 hours per week Tuesdays and Thursdays) About Us We are a well-established NHS GP practice committed to delivering high-quality patient care. Our clinical team is supported by skilled administrative staff to ensure smooth practice operations. We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Medical Secretary to focus primarily on referral management and provide occasional general administrative support to the wider team. Role Overview As a Medical Secretary, your primary responsibility will be the timely and accurate processing of patient referrals. You will work closely with GPs and other clinicians to ensure that referral letters and documentation are completed and communicated efficiently. While your main focus will be on referral management, you may also be required to support general administrative tasks during busy periods. Key Responsibilities Referral Management: Prepare, process and track patient referrals, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely submission via systems such as NHS e-Referral Service (E-RS). Secretarial Support: Type and distribute medical correspondence including referral letters and reports. Communication: Liaise with hospitals, specialists, and other healthcare providers to facilitate patient care pathways. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records using the clinical system (SystmOne). General Administrative Support: Assist with administrative duties such as scanning, filing, and handling patient correspondence as needed. Essential Skills & Qualifications Previous experience as a medical secretary in a healthcare setting, ideally in a GP practice. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and clinical systems such as SystmOne. Strong organisational skills with attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively. Understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection principles. Desirable Experience using the NHS e-Referral Service (E-RS).
