Job summary: The post holder will be required to work in the Imaging Department and participate in the provision of a 24-hr service in accordance with the procedures laid down by the Head of the Department. They will provide a specialist, high quality cardio-thoracic service to assist in patient diagnosis and treatment. They will have the ability to cope effectively in a rapidly changing environment. They will be trained in defibrillation and intermediate life support. They will be able to use PC based software. They will possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills, always reflecting a professional attitude. To be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of all staff in the Imaging Department. To play a role in the continuous development of the Trust as a member of the Imaging team and as a potential member of a range of Trust quality/process improvement project groups Imaging department has 2 CT scanners and 2 MRI Scanner performing variety of highly specialised cardiothoracic imaging. We have a busy Primary angiography service and are one of the biggest Heart and Lung Transplant centres in Europe. Main tasks and responsibilities Communication Give reassurance to patients undergoing examinations, explaining where necessary what is involved. To communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, overcoming any barriers to understand. Be able to work as part of a team. Being able if required to advise physicians during procedures, of best imaging and positioning Give verbal advise to physicians of urgent clinical findings e.g. pneumothorax, especially during out of hours when a radiologist is not available Communicate with other health professional to clarify and justify imaging request. Patient/customer care (both direct and indirect) To act as an Operator under IR(ME)R 2000 regulations, undertaking radiographic examinations having first assessed the clinical requirements and sought any guidance required. To observe and be responsible to ensure radiation protection is adhered to by all staff and visitors in all areas you are working, in accordance with IR(ME)R regulations and local radiation policies. And to keep undated of any changes relating to these policies To set and maintain standards of appearance and professional attitude at all times. To maintained high standards of patient care and ensure that best practices are implemented and maintained. To work effectively as a team member. To show initiative. Be accountable for own professional actions. Be able to check plain films, know when further imaging is required, Support and assist the medical physicist to monitor and ensure maintenance of the quality assurance program within the cross-sectional imaging. To observe and promote all Local Rules for Radiation Protection and MRI safety ensuring that radiation safety is of paramount importance. To advise on issues of MRI safety, referring complex enquiries appropriately. Be trained to proficiency level in the use of the MRI and CT equipment. Be able and prepared to work anywhere, according to training, within the imaging department as required to ensure the smooth running of department. Be competent in the use of all CT and MRI equipment. Understand potential difficulties and risks of administration of contrast medium, in CT /MRI be able to fill, connect, and operate injector pumps. Know how and when to call for assistant in the event of emergency. Be trained and able to assist in emergency patient care, including resuscitation. To seek advice from colleagues and senior staff when required. Ensure all rooms are clean and tidy and maintain a clean working environment including prompt cleaning up of bodily fluid spillages. Understand and deal with infectious materials in accordance with hospital policy. To be vigilant in hand washing procedures. To assist in radiological procedures, utilising their patient care skills, knowledge, and experience To observe all aspects of the HASAW act, COSHH, Health and Safety and all other trust and departmental and trust polices and know where to locate them. Be able to work competently, single handily during out of hours duties To participate in the extended and out of hours duty rota, covering a 24hr service 7 days a week To be trained to a minimum level of immediate life support Policy & Service development Awareness of the wider political, social, economic, and institutional factors shaping healthcare provision To have full knowledge and understanding of the statutory IR(ME)R, IRR17 regulations. To produce, implement, and review comprehensive policies, procedures, and guidelines for operational and governance purposes across the imaging services, ensuring best practices are maintained and changes promoted to develop the service. To be up to date on all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures and to follow/implement advice. Resource management Be able to trouble shoot where possible and report any equipment faults to superintendent/ radiography manager and ensure all reasonable care to avoid incident or accident To assist the superintendent in charge of QA, when asked, in routine quality assurance on cross sectional imaging equipments. People management To train new members of staff in the departmental protocols and Standard Operating Procedures. Participate in departmental audit and clinical research. Maintain and manage the day-to-day work load / demand in CT/MRI Attend mandatory training and take part in in-house training and other such courses of instruction as may be arranged To maintain and develop an interest in future Radiography and in allied imaging techniques for post registration education, by keeping abreast of new techniques and actively participating in a programme of continuing professional development. Information management Be able to use all forms of data recording and restoration eg: PACS, IEP, patient information systems etc. Produce and maintain accurate written and computerised patient records. Maintain the confidentiality of patient information in accordance with data the protection act. To use computerised Quantitative Coronary and Ventricular Analysis to advise the Cardiologist on size of balloon, stent and choice of catheter to be used during procedures. Research and development. To translate the outcomes of research into improved patient care by evaluating new ideas and being innovative in how they are applied. Further sections To ensure all team members have a real voice in the development of the Imaging service to patients/customers. To maximise the potential of all team members and to ensure that all team members have a meaningful appraisal/personal development plan that includes feedback to the individual from a selection of internal customers and team members To provide a safe and attractive working environment for team members within available resources To attend and play a part in corporate groups as a representative of the directorate and team to represent the Trust at regional and national conferences and on working groups as appropriate To abide by the NHS Code of conduct for managers, the Trusts Core behaviours for staff and managers and all other Trust policies, codes and practices, including standing financial instructions, research governance, clinical governance, patient and public involvement and health and safety.
