Are you an organised, compassionate, and reliable individual with excellent communication skills? We are looking for a dedicated Ward Clerk to join our dynamic team in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (Ward 12) at the Great North Children's Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting the smooth operation of a fast-paced, specialist clinical area, making a real difference to children and their families during critical times.
As our Ward Clerk, you will be the welcoming face and administrative backbone of the PICU. You will work closely with the nursing, medical, and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring accurate patient records, efficient communication, and a calm, supportive environment.

• Full and part time hours available. More than one position available.
• Flexible working is available, with shifts covering a pattern across Monday to Thursday with every other Sunday, ensuring a supportive work life balance within out dynamic team.

This is a key role within the team involving all aspects of administrative work from reception/telephone duties to preparation of patient documentation for admission/discharge, ensuring the smooth running of the service. As a valued member of the team, you will benefit from working in a supportive environment as part of wide multidisciplinary team.
What we are looking for:
• Previous administrative or reception experience (NHS or healthcare setting desirable but not essential)
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
• Confident in using IT systems and Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently
• A friendly, calm, and professional manner, especially in sensitive situations

Key Responsibilities:
• • Greet, assist and support patients, families, and visitors in a professional and compassionate manner
• Maintain accurate and confidential patient records using electronic systems
• Document patient admissions, discharges, and transfers
• Support the clinical team with general administrative duties including filing, printing, and data entry
• Answer telephone calls and direct enquiries appropriately
• Ensure a well-organised and tidy ward reception area
• Job Purpose
• To provide and maintain efficient and effective administrative support to the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse and multidisciplinary team.
• Contribute to the delivery of a consistently high standard of patient care as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Ensures case notes, investigations, X-rays and results are available for new admissions, ward rounds and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
• To ensure that case notes are correctly maintained following departmental guidelines and compliance with legislation (Caldicott Guidelines etc).Ensuring PAS system is up to date and accurate.
