Can you bring your knowledge and expertise to our Critical Care Unit?

We are a large 18 bedded Critical Care Unit that delivers care to patients across Walsall and surrounding areas. An exciting opportunity has arisen within our busy unit to work as a band 2 clinical support worker, delivering a high standard of care to all our patients.
• Support the critical care nurse in the maintenance of personal hygiene.
• Assist the bedside nurse in the prevention of pressure area damage through good care delivery.
• Assist with last offices
• Raise alert if you discover an emergency situation and assist under direction.
• Maintaining and promoting patients privacy and dignity
• Assist with general tidiness and presentation of ward/department environment
• Support patients when transferring between departments
• Ensure equipment/devices are cleaned where appropriate and kept on chare between patient usage and all equipment is handled accordingly to Trust/ward policy and procedures
• Applicants must also have good written and verbal skills, a patient and caring attitude and be able to work as part of a team.
• Assist in undertaking activities of living in accordance with the care plan prescribed by qualified staff. These duties will include the delivery of hygiene care, nutrition and hydration, continence care, pressure area care, mobility and rehabilitation and offer psychological support.
• Assist in the taking and recording of patient’s observations.
• Report changes to patient’s health status to trained nurse for action.
• Support registered nursing staff with clinical treatments and investigations as appropriate, to the level of knowledge and skill. This may include the escort of patients to other departments within the hospital and on occasion to other departments and specialist units off site.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.

A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023. The two-storey development has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity and has provided almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.

To be considered for the post applicants must have at least 6 months experience in the care of patients in an acute hospital setting

In addition appointees must be willing to undertake competency based training relevant to the role and carry out additional roles after training

It is expected that appointees will achieve an initial critical care competencies within 6 months of commencing work in critical care (full time employees, time pro-rata for part time appointees).

Successful applicants will be expected to work unsocial hours, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
