Welsh Language Translator – Role Overview

The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) are hiring a Welsh Language Translator to join the Welsh Translation Team, providing support to meet the increasing needs of Welsh language services and contributing to the aspirations of our Welsh Language Scheme.

We are seeking a candidate who is fluent in spoken and written Welsh. The successful candidate will be confident in their ability to provide translation and quality assurance of documents between Welsh and English.

As a Welsh Language Translator, you will take on a dynamic and varied role where no two days are the same. You will collaborate closely with key colleagues and stakeholders across the Agency, gaining valuable insights into different business areas. Your responsibilities will include supporting new Welsh language projects, such as the implementation of Trio Writing, as well as contributing to the development of other language-related processes.

Welsh Language Translator – Key responsibilities

The role of a Welsh Language Translator is to provide a range of services to the highest standard to ensure that the Agency complies with its Welsh Language Scheme:

  • Written translation – providing a translation service to stakeholders within our Agency to ensure we meet our obligations under Welsh language legislation. This could include customer or ministerial correspondence, documents that support our Valuation colleagues in Tribunal, and our online publications.
  • Quality assurance – ensuring that translations that have been undertaken in other areas of the business or externally are of the required standard.
  • Proofreading – provide a detailed and meticulous service to ensure that all VOA publications are of the highest possible standard.
  • Trio writing – ensure that new documents, forms and other materials are produced bilingually by creating material alongside a subject matter expert and a content designer.
  • Supporting our Welsh speakers – working with our Welsh Language Officer, Welsh Language Unit, and colleagues who wish to use Welsh language to do so effectively and to the required standard.
