We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Healthcare Assistant to join our team within the Elsie Bertram Diabetes Centre. The Elsie Bertram Diabetes Centre is an outpatient service which provides patients with a high standard of diabetes care with a view to improving both health and quality of life.

We have a firmly established multi-professional approach to care delivery with both Consultant and Specialist Nurses delivering clinics. We aim to educate and inform patients, their families, and carers for them to make choices about their individual health care needs and support them with self-management of their diabetes. Our Senior Healthcare Assistants help us to deliver this service and are involved in clinic processing, preparing patients for their appointments and uploading technology used in diabetes care so, attention to documentation and a basic understanding of computers/software is vital. We are ideally looking for someone with experience of phlebotomy however training would be given.

As post holder you will carry out clinical observations, including diabetes foot checks, blood glucose and blood ketone monitoring for patients who attend the clinic for Consultant or Specialist Nurse review.

This is a substantive position working 15 hours over 2 weekdays. However, this would need a degree of flexibility to cover service needs.

• To accurately and promptly carry out the instructions of the Registered Nurse who is professionally accountable for the delivery of care.
• To carry out duties as specified in within the Trust’s Approved Core Task List for Health Care Assistants qualified to NVQ Level 3 in Care/Health and Social Care.
• To report to registered staff any patient that gives cause for concern or any observed changes in a patient’s clinical condition
• To report all care that has been given to patients within the team to a Registered Nurse.
• To accurately document all care delivered to patients, countersigned by a Registered Nurse maintaining confidentiality at all times.
• To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patient receives appropriate care. be aware of role in emergency situations
• To be aware of and adhere to all Trust policies / procedures / nursing guidelines when undertaking any activities.
• To make patients welcome to the clinical area and participate in the admission process under the supervision of registered staff.
• Provide and deliver a high standard of individualised personal nursing care in accordance with essence of care standards.
• To keep the clinical area clean and tidy maintaining a safe environment
