Job description
Although this job description is correct at present, it may change from time to time after negotiation with the post holder.
Must have the right to work in the UK to apply for this role, sponsorship not available.

Job purpose
I am looking for a Care and Support Worker to help look after our son ‘J’.

About me
J is nine years old, he is a happy sociable little boy. He sleeps and eats well. He enjoys lots of things but especially water, music, singing and clapping. J has Pitt Hopkins Syndrome. He cannot walk or talk but he communicates his needs in his own way once you get to know him and he bum shuffles to great effect.
J lives with his parents, three older siblings and family pet (a Jack Russell named Rocco) in the family home in Wetherden near Stowmarket.
Most of the work will take place in our family home but also on family days out with J.
J needs help eating, washing and toileting. Occasionally he gets distressed on family days out and would need his Carer to help comfort or distract him. Having a Carer for J will allow the family to spend more time together.
J requires help with transfers. J is a wheelchair user, but the Carer does not need to have a wheelchair car as we will provide transport for J.
The successful candidate will be responsible to J’s parents. In the course of the work the Carer will have access to sensitive and confidential information. This should not be discussed outside of work unless disclosure is in the best interests of J or his siblings i.e. due to a safeguarding issue.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Help J eat his tea
Help J get ready for bed to include
helping J to use the toilet
changing J’s nappy
showering J
brushing J’s teeth
and getting him ready in his pyjamas.
Take J to the local park in his wheelchair, he enjoys the basket swing!

The main duties on a family day out will be to:
● Help J eat drink and use the toilet
● Look after J if he becomes distressed

Essential Criteria
Ability to work unsupervised and take initiative
Able to communicate effectively in English

Summary terms and conditions
We are able to offer 5 hours a week at £13.88 an hour. This will be flexible and determined monthly in advance by discussion between the Carer and the employer. The shifts will take the pattern of two 2 and a 1/2 hour shifts during the evenings Monday to Thursday, or a 5 hour afternoon during the weekend (Saturday or Sunday) or potentially saved for a full day (7 to 10 hours) of support for a family day out.
Pay rate: £13.88 per hour
