Crynodeb

The Hand Fellow post is for Plastic and Orthopaedic trainees nearing the end of their specialist training who wish to further develop their experience in the field of Hand Surgery. It is envisaged that there will be two appointments, one Orthopaedic trainee and one Plastic surgery trainee. The appointments will be for a period of one year, with the two appointments spending six months at the two respective hospitals (QVH and MTW). The post holder will work with all the Consultant Hand Surgeons and will be exposed to the full spectrum of elective and emergency hand surgery at the Trust. They will be encouraged to participate in the research, audit and teaching activity within the Hand Surgery Department and, if desired, their efforts to undertake the BSSH Diploma in Hand Surgery will be encouraged and supported by supervision from the Consultant staff and their assigned Educational Supervisor. The Unit has supported previous Hand Fellows in gaining their BSSH Diploma. With increasing experience there will be opportunities to undertake unsupervised operating lists and clinics. The Job involves: Six months as a Hand Fellow at each Trust (QVH and MTW) The total duration of the appointment is for one year. On Calls: Plastic surgery trainees will be part of the middle grade (registrar) Plastics on call rota at Queen Victoria Hospital. Orthopedic Trainees will be part of the middle grade (registrar) Orthopaedic on call rota at MTW. Whilst it is envisaged there will be one Plastic surgery trainee and one Orthopaedic trainee appointed to the two Hand fellow posts, in the event two trainees from the same speciality are appointed, one will have regular on call duties and the other will have on call duties when available (as such the second appointee will have no entitlement to an on call commitment if two trainees from the same speciality are appointed) The respective Hand Fellows will cross over to the other trust at the end of a six month tenure.
