Are you a confident and motivated Band 5 or an emerging Band 6 Occupational Therapist who would like to develop new clinical and managerial skills within an acute setting?
Are you a motivated and forward thinking Occupational Therapist looking to develop specialist skills within an acute in-patient therapy team?
An exciting opportunity has arisen at London Northwest University Healthcare NHS Trust for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our therapy team on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) based at Northwick Park Hospital.
The AMU unit covers three wards ranging from length of stay of 12 hours to 72 hours. This requires rapid assessment, implementation of treatment plans and coordination of safe and effective discharge plans for general medical patients, with a range of conditions including cardio-respiratory, rheumatology, orthopaedics, neuro and impaired mobility.
In this role you will work closely with physiotherapy, and attend daily multi-disciplinary meetings. You will develop advanced skills in communication, admission prevention, functional and MSK assessments. The post will provide the opportunity to further develop your clinical skills and medical knowledge with a diverse caseload whilst contributing to progressive inpatient services. There will be regular in-service cross-therapy teaching/training and clinical supervision, as well as support in your professional development.
• As an autonomous practitioner, to assess and treat own caseload and provide a specialist therapy service within the Acute Medical units
• Complete comprehensive initial, functional and cognitive assessments to develop thorough problem lists and treatment plans to deliver a high standard of care including prompt discharge planning.
• To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), assessing and treating patients with potentially complex disability, maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records.
• To support the line manager in the provision and management of therapy services, including responsibility for managing students and junior staff.
• To engage in own continued professional development (CPD) and service development, in conjunction with the Band 7s and 8s.
• To participate in the weekend working rota (1 in 4 weekends) – days off are allocated in the week following weekend working
