Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist in Stroke – Band 8C

Fixed-term maternity cover

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled, innovative and experienced Clinical Psychologist / Neuropsychologist to lead a psychology team in enhancing psychological practices across the stroke rehabilitation pathway, from acute to community care. The role will involve shaping the service and ensuring excellent and compassionate care to patients.

The role sits within the supportive and welcoming Neuropsychology Department comprised of 13 clinical Neuropsychologists/ Psychologists and 9 Assistant Psychologists in six service areas (General Outpatients, Neurosurgery, Cognitive Disorders, Inpatients, Stroke and Community Traumatic Brain injury).

As Lead Clinical Psychologist/ Neuropsychologist for the Stroke Neuropsychology Service, you would be responsible for the ongoing development and support of the stroke neuropsychology team as they deliver high quality neuropsychological input to the stroke pathway, supporting stroke survivors, their families, and the wider multidisciplinary team. This fixed-term clinical and operational leadership role provides opportunities for creativity, service development, and the chance to make a real impact.



The Stroke Neuropsychology Service forms part of a larger network of clinical psychologists and neuropsychologists within the Department of Neuropsychology at North Bristol NHS Trust, with links to Clinical Health and Counselling Psychologists across the hospital, as well as the University of Bristol postgraduate training programme in Clinical Neuropsychology.

The postholder will be based at the Rosa Burden Centre, Southmead Hospital, and be part of the Department of Neuropsychology, North Bristol NHS Trust.

The postholder will provide clinical and operational management leadership of the neuropsychology input to the stroke pathway, leading the neuropsychology input from acute, through post-acute hospital to community provision, supporting the seamless provision of high-quality neuropsychological care across the pathway, working with relevant partner agencies, including Sirona Care and Health, UHBW, and the charity sector.

The postholder will provide operational leadership in relation to the delivery of neuropsychological care and rehabilitation in-line with relevant guidelines, protocols and the scientific evidence base.

The postholder will take a lead role in the representing neuropsychology at relevant clinical and operational meetings and forums to ensure the quality of the provision within the available resources.

The postholder will take a lead role in the development of the stroke neuropsychology service, and in the support of the neuropsychology team to deliver input to the stroke pathway.

The postholder will contribute to ensuring the highest standards of care possible within the resources available, and contribute to the evaluation of quality and governance as appropriate.

The postholder will act in a senior capacity and will be able to effectively delegate day to day responsibilities among contributing team members.

The post holder will receive management and leadership support from senior colleagues.

The postholder will be professionally accountable to the Head of Neuropsychology at North Bristol NHS Trust.
