We are inviting applications from dentists with a keen interest in Special Care Dentistry to join our dedicated and enthusiastic team. This fixed-term position, offered as maternity cover for one year, involves providing comprehensive dental care to both adults and children with additional needs.

The Special Care Dental Service is part of a countywide service providing NHS Dental treatment to patients on referral, operating Mondays to Fridays, 08:30am to 4:30pm.

The post is based at St. Richard’s Hospital, Chichester and includes delivery of domiciliary care. Full GDC registration and immediate eligibility for a performer number are essential.

Successful applicants will be invited for interview.

• Treating patients as individuals, showing them concern and respect and providing them or their carers (where appropriate) with clear information about their treatment, participating in epidemiological surveys as required.

• Screening client groups as required.

• Domiciliary visits.

• Referring patients to other dental professionals as appropriate.

• Supporting senior colleagues with the treatment of patients under general anaesthetic

a) Being responsible of the day-to-day leadership and management of a dental clinic including supervising other staff, resolving local complaints and ensuring all relevant policies and procedures are adhered to.

b) Managing, with the senior management team, any concerns about health and safety, patient care and the performance of team members.

c) Meet the agreed targets for activity to allow the dental service to achieve its contractual targets

d) Maximise both individual and clinic activity and ensure the most effective use of resources through efficient management of time and the appointment system

e) Provide professional and operational leadership to dental officers, dental therapists, dental nurses and the administration team at clinic level

f) Provide clinical supervision and management of dental officers and dental therapists.

g) Lead on delivery of care under general anaesthetic

h) Provide clinical leadership and support dental officers in the delivery of
domiciliary care

i) Lead on safeguarding concerns
