Join us at the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) as a Lead Product Manager for Data Products where you will be responsible for a product portfolio, and the delivery of product quality and value. They work with teams to identify, implement and improve strategies and tactics for their data products. They are a member of the management team for their product area and provide product leadership and direction across multiple teams.
As Lead Product Manager, you will be part of the central Product Management Community of Practice in MaPS and will also be responsible for understanding and meeting the criteria set out in the Government Digital Service Standards.
The Lead Product Manager for data products reports to the Head of Data and Analytics. The role is aligned to the Government Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework: https://ddat-capability-framework.service.gov.uk/role/product-manager#lead-product-manager
You’ll be part of a dynamic team dedicated to helping people across the UK improve their financial wellbeing.
Key responsibilities:
Enablement of MaPS Data Professionals:
- Learning and Development: Develop and implement a ‘Data Product Playbook’ to support MaPS Data Professionals in adopting a product approach to dashboard development.
- Solving Insight Challenges: Assist MaPS data professionals in addressing stakeholder challenges and designing data products for easy access to actionable information.
- User Interface and User Experience Development: Collaborate with data/BI analysts and UI/UX designers to enhance the usability and accessibility of data products, primarily Power BI dashboards.
Development of Individual Data Products:
- Iterative Development: Lead the iterative development of data products, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with user needs.
- Product Lifecycle Management: Oversee data product lifecycles, making informed decisions based on usage statistics.
- Combining Data for New Insights: Integrate data from multiple sources to uncover new insights and drive strategic initiatives.
- Operating Model: Implement a comprehensive operating model for Data Product development, including reactive, proactive, and strategic layers.
Ownership of MaPS Business Intelligence Hub:
- Roadmap Management: Manage and communicate the roadmap for the Business Intelligence Hub to key stakeholders, including Senior Leaders.
- Report Consolidation and Reporting Frameworks: Oversee report consolidation and develop robust reporting frameworks to support data-driven decision-making.
- Understanding Value: Establish a framework to track and understand the usage and impact of data products within the Business Intelligence Hub.
- Legal Governance and Privacy: Address legal governance and privacy considerations at the start of Data Product development.
Key accountabilities:
- Manage people and manage products.
- Maintain the high level roadmap.
- Be involved in a range of programme management activities relevant to their product portfolio.
- Be involved in recruiting product managers at all levels and contractors.
- Provide leadership in your programmes and across the local community, working closely with the head of product, where they exist.
You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

- Agile and Lean practices
- Applying user-centred insights

- Life cycle management
- Managing product outcomes. Evidence of taking a product from non-maturity through to maturity

Flexible Working
At MaPS, we take pride in our flexible approach to work. As standard, we work on a hybrid basis with a minimum of 2 days in the office per week. Hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and our headquarters in Bedford will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business needs, but personal and other relevant circumstances will also be considered. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
