Job Purpose:
To provide leadership and management of a children’s home, ensuring high-quality care is delivered to meet the needs of children and young people. To ensure the home complies with all regulatory requirements, including Ofsted standards, and creates a safe, nurturing environment that promotes the well-being, development, and positive outcomes of children and young people in care.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management
• Provide overall leadership and direction to the staff team, creating a positive, child-focused culture.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and Ofsted standards for children's homes.
• Manage the recruitment, supervision, and appraisal of staff to ensure a high-performing team.
• Develop and maintain effective policies, procedures, and practices to support the smooth running of the home.
• Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring child protection policies are implemented and followed.
Care and Support for Children and Young People
• Ensure personalised care plans are in place and reviewed regularly to meet the individual needs of each child.
• Promote positive outcomes by supporting children and young people in their emotional, social, and educational development.
• Work collaboratively with external agencies, including social workers, schools, and health professionals, to ensure joined-up care.
• Facilitate family relationships and contact as appropriate, in line with care plans.
Regulatory Compliance and Standards
• Maintain the home’s Ofsted registration and ensure readiness for inspections.
• Keep accurate records, including incident logs, safeguarding reports, and care reviews, ensuring they meet legal and organisational standards.
• Ensure health and safety compliance, including risk assessments and regular audits.
• Monitor and evaluate the home’s performance through regular quality assurance checks and develop improvement plans where needed.
Budget and Resource Management
• Manage the home’s budget effectively, ensuring financial stability.
• Oversee the procurement and maintenance of resources, ensuring the home is well-equipped and maintained to a high standard.
Staff Training and Development
• Ensure all staff receive appropriate training, including safeguarding, health and safety, and therapeutic care approaches.
• Promote a culture of continuous professional development among team members.
• Conduct regular team meetings to ensure communication and collaboration
Person Specification:
Essential Qualifications and Experience
• Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) or be willing to work towards.
• At least 2 years’ experience working in a residential setting with children and young people.
• Experience in managing staff and leading a team.
Skills and Competencies
• Strong knowledge of The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Ofsted standards.
• Excellent leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage complex situations effectively.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Working Hours and Conditions:
• Full-time position, 9am -5pm including some evenings, weekends, and on-call duties as required.
