About us
At Science Museum Group (SMG) we are here to inspire futures. Our vision is to 'think big' in the delivery of bold creative galleries and programmes, sharing authentic stories in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). The Science and Industry Museum (SIM), part of SMG, explores how ideas can change the world, from the Industrial Revolution to today.
At SIM, we are part way through the transformation of our historic museum site and collection displays, ensuring our galleries and spaces meet visitor needs in relevant and dynamic ways. As part of this ambitious programme of capital projects we are now developing two fantastic new galleries - Wonderlab and Technicians Gallery.
To support the work on these galleries, we are now seeking two Interpretation & Content Managers - one working on each gallery, on a fixed term contract (until 2027 - Wonderlab, and 2030 - Technicians), on a full-time basis.
About the role
As Interpretation & Content Manager at SIM, you will lead the content and interactive development of these two new galleries, and play a key role within the SIM Public Programme team, working in a visitor focused way and building science capital amongst audiences. Working closely with industry partners and specialists, you will focus on developing and delivering compelling narratives, interpretation, text and interactives for the gallery.
About you
Joining us, you will be able to communicate complex and big ideas in a creative and engaging way, with experience of developing, tailoring and delivering narratives. You'll be able to bring STEM to life in the creation of an audience focused gallery and live engagement programme. You'll have good communication and creative writing skills which can be applied across a variety of mediums for a range of readers, from museum visitors to internal and external stakeholders You'll hold experience of working with a variety of stakeholders such as subject matter experts, technicians, designers, artists, to ensure visitor focused exhibition narratives, text and interactive development.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
