Crynodeb

Tan Dhesi MP is seeking a motivated, well-organised individual with strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills—and a passion for helping others—to join his dedicated team as a full-time Caseworker (maternity cover), expected to last until at least March 2026.

As a key member of the team, you will support constituents with a range of issues, including benefits, housing, healthcare, and immigration.

Key responsibilities:

• Gather relevant information to help resolve casework
• Respond to public enquiries via phone and email on matters such as housing, benefits, and school placements
• Attend constituency meetings and surgeries; represent the MP when required
• Analyse and interpret data to keep the MP informed on key issues
• Draft and progress individual casework
• Maintain confidential records in line with the Data Protection Act
• Log, monitor, and follow up on all casework actions
• Identify trends in enquiries and produce reports
• Perform general administrative tasks (e.g. photocopying, filing, correspondence)

The ideal candidate will have:

• A genuine passion for helping others
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Fluency in another language, particularly Urdu, Punjabi or Hindi
• A solid understanding of the UK political system and local government
• Knowledge of housing, benefits, and immigration systems
• Awareness of current affairs and local constituency issues
• Strong IT skills, including casework software (e.g. Caseworker.mp)
• Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail
• The ability to show discretion and professionalism, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information
• Sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party
• Experience managing a caseload and prioritising tasks
• Previous work in an MP’s office or similar public service environment
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a small team

If successful, and prior to appointment, you will be required to obtain the required security clearance to work as part of an MPs team. Vetting is undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office team within the UK Parliament Security Department.

MPs generally pay and employ staff in accordance with guidelines set by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.
