We are delighted to advertise an excellent opportunity to join our wonderful school, a one form entry primary school with a nursery set in a spacious site within Staines-upon-Thames. The school is part of the Ascension Catholic Academy Trust working in collaboration with other local Catholic schools to provide the very best education for our pupils, so that they can flourish. The staff team is experienced and enthusiastic and is committed to providing an environment which supports active and independent learning.Early Years Support Staff - Level 3 Qualification (preferred) - Start 2nd June 2025 Fixed Term Contract initially until August 2026 with scope to becoming permanent for the right candidate. Pay Scale: PS3 £15,400 per annum (over 12 months) 27.5 hours a week 8.30am to 3pm Monday to Friday (45 minute unpaid lunch break, 15 minute break)Term Time Only plus 3 in-service daysReports to: Nursery Teacher/Early Years LeadThis appointment is with the governors of the school under the terms of the Catholic Education Service contract signed with the governors as employers. The governors will seek to appoint a teaching assistant who, by personal example and professional leadership, will ensure that the Catholic ethos, rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church, permeates all aspects of the life at the school.
Key areas
Provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for all children attending the Nursery.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all the children.
Fully support the key person system.
Give support to other staff in the Nursery.
Main duties and responsibilities specifically relating to the Nursery:
Implement agreed school policies and guidelines.
Regularly consult, informally and formally, with the Early Years teacher and other Nursery staff over Nursery issues.
Work as part of a team and support colleagues.
Support the teacher to set clear targets, based on prior attainment, for children’s learning.
Support the teacher in providing a stimulating classroom environment, where resources can be accessed appropriately by all children.
Keep appropriate, accurate and efficient records as requested by the teacher to support with children’s learning and well-being.
Support the teacher to organise resources for the Nursery and consider any further resource needs and their effective placement.
Support the teacher to build effective relationships with parents reporting on the development, progress and attainment of children through parent discussions.
Support the teacher and other Nursery staff to maintain good order and discipline amongst children, in accordance with the school's behaviour policy.
Support the Nursery teacher to implement supportive and sympathetic settling in procedures for new children, including taking on a key person approach.
Support children to develop independence and self-help skills ensuring intimate care policies are followed.
Attend training and keep up to date with changes to welfare requirements, child protection procedures and safeguarding, ensuring understanding and implementation.
Have particular regard to the individual needs of each child in the class and ensure early intervention is of the highest priority, to ensure children are school ready.
Liaise with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator regarding application of school policy to support children with learning difficulties.
Join in with the extra-curricular life of the school and support parent association events.
Participate in meetings which relate to the school's priorities.
Model and encourage a strong commitment to training and ongoing professional development, keeping up to date with recent developments and initiatives relevant to Early Years practice.
Participate in the supervision and appraisal system of your own performance.
Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Early Years Teacher, Senior Leadership Team or Headteacher.
General:
Support the aims, vision and ethos of the school.
Maintain a good up to date knowledge and understanding of the range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies used and know how to use and adapt them.
Demonstrate a good understanding of classroom management and how it impacts on children’s learning.
Comply with all the school policies and procedures, including those related to child protection, equal opportunities, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection; reporting concerns to appropriate persons.
Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Headteacher or Governors.
Personal Development and Well Being:
Be proactive in matters in relation to Health and Safety.
Maintain a strong commitment to working within the school’s ‘team’ ethos.
Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.
